Behind the Mask
A glimpse into my unmasking journey, and the heart behind this space.
"This isn’t a blog. It’s a space for us.
For the ones who’ve always had to overthink before speaking.
For the professionals who’ve code-switched through exhaustion.
For the high-functioning survivors who’ve never felt fully seen.
Unmasked Diaries is about healing through honesty, softness, and community.
About shedding the pressure to perform and finally breathing as your whole self."

Journey

Founder & Voice Behind Unmasked Diaries
Hello! I’m Bonni C., the founder of Unmasked Diaries.
I was late-diagnosed with ADHD and level 1 autism in my early twenties. For most of my life, I didn’t have the words to describe who I am, only the pressure to be who others needed me to be.
I masked to survive: in school, at work, even with family. I smiled through shutdowns, pushed through overstimulation, and learned to shrink my joy to make others comfortable. My background is in education, teaching and supporting students, all while quietly carrying the weight of being misunderstood.
Unmasked Diaries was born from the quiet ache of finally knowing myself, and the courage it takes to live that truth out loud. This space is my offering to others who’ve spent years hiding parts of themselves to feel accepted.
Through storytelling, reflection, and community, I hope to create a space where we can all unmask, soften, and begin to feel whole together.
Our Mission
I created Unmasked Diaries to hold space for stories that have been silenced, especially from late-diagnosed, neurodivergent African American women and femmes who have spent years hiding who they really are.
Unmasked Diaries exists to honor the journey of unmasking the quiet unraveling of survival modes, the deep remembering of your true self, and the gentle work of choosing rest, truth, and belonging over perfection.
We believe in the healing power of storytelling, community, and slow growth. This isn’t about being “better.”
It’s about being more you.
Our Goals
These are the seeds we’re planting and nurturing together:
-
Create a welcoming space where neurodivergent people can feel seen, safe, and celebrated, especially those who’ve been overlooked or misunderstood.
-
Share personal stories and reflections that normalize unmasking, overstimulation, burnout, and emotional exhaustion.
-
Build a soft community rooted in care, curiosity, and mutual support, without pressure to explain or perform.
-
Grow an email list to deepen connection and eventually expand into workshops, wellness offerings, and in-person support.
-
Disrupt the narrative that healing has to be loud, fast, or polished. We choose softness. We choose slowness. We choose truth.
This is NOT a blog! It’s a mirror, a conversation, and a quiet revolution.
You’re not too much. You’re not alone.
You’re already enough just as you are, behind the mask.
